Once you identify the nonproductive part of your traditional advertising budget put it into digital advertising. What really goes into a Small Business SEO best practices strategy?

With that said it is imperative the small business person understands Internet marketing to be successful! My mission is to EMPOWER all Small businesses to achieve maximum prosperity free! What are the Small Business SEO secrets to beat your competition to the top of the search results? This short but powerful article will reveal the Small Business SEO secrets to a marketing a business today!

It all begins with understanding why your competition is appearing on the top of the search engines for your keyword phrases. You will need some free tools to help you. The first free tool is a browser plugin called SEO Quake. Search for it on Google, download the plugin and install it. After you install it make sure it is turned on and do a search on the search engines for all the keyword phrases you want to target. Start a report listing the top websites on the search engine results pages. Your new plugin will add a list of inside information about each competitor. Add to your report each websites PR ranking, how many backlinks they have, the age of the domains, what sites they are listed on and who is linking to them.

If you don't already have a free account on Google open one. Having a Google account will enable you to receive more results from Google's Keyword Tool and help greatly with other Small Business SEO strategies. Now go to Google Keyword Tool but instead of putting in your keywords put your competitors websites addresses in the website box. This will reveal all the keywords your competitors are focusing on. You want to start building a large list of keyword phrases with medium competition. Download each set of keywords to build your list. Don't worry about keywords with under 1000 searches per month.

What we are doing is building a large list and filtering down by targeted keyword phrases with strong buying intent, over 1000 searches a month and under 30,000 competing sites. To understand how many websites are competing for that exact keyword phrase we need to go back to Google and search for the keywords you want to target with quotes "keyword" around them. The small business SEO strategy here is putting quotes around the keyword will show all the websites that are focusing on the exact match.

The next part of your Small Business SEO strategy is to take you keyword list and do a search for a bulk domain registration site. A bulk domain registration site will allow you to paste in your list of keywords and show you which have .com, .org or .net domain available. If you are able to get a domain with an exact match to your targeted keyword it will give you a huge Small Business SEO advantage over your competition! Use the other keywords to create categories on your site. Write 300 to 500 word articles focused on each keyword repeating the keyword phrase once for every 100 words. Use your keyword phrase in the page title, description and image alt tags. After you have built your site ping each article at Ping.fm, social bookmark each article. If you are collecting e-mail addresses (which you should) open an account with Aweber.

Every week write 500 word articles with a couple of hyperlinks back to your website for the keyword phrase (anchor text) you are focusing on and submit them to the article directories, create a Squidoo lens, create some blogs on HubPages, Blogger and Wordpress. Create some videos and submit them at TubeMogul. Start a Facebook page and business fan page. All this is free except the hosting company which is normally around $10 a month.

Local businesses has many Small Business SEO advantages. You competition normally does not know all this so the competition is easier to beat. Another advantage is you local directories in Google, Yahoo and Bing. Make sure you submit to them! Also submit to all the free Yellow Pages, Directories, Local Search Engines, Business Listings and Networks. A jump on doing this is to submit to InfoUSA and SuperPages as they are aggregators to many of the major local business portals.
