Should You Hire An Online Marketing Agency?

By Mark Walters

Nowadays, with an extreme level of competition on the internet, such that has never been seen before, it takes inside knowledge to gain a marketing advantage. Unlike with other mediums, on the internet all businesses are on a level playing field and any small business is able to compete with international corporations if they can market themselves well enough. This is where online marketing agencies come in. The services that online marketing agencies offer are vast. We can not cover them all here but we will look at the main services that they provide.

Probably the most important and productive marketing strategy that an online marketing agency will use is called SEO, or search engine optimization. In simple terms, SEO is the act of increasing a websites visibility in popular search engines, with the ultimate goal being the first result on the first page of a keyword or keyword phrase search by a user. Being number one means that it is expected to be the first website a user will click on and therefore, the first chance at converting a webpage view to a sale. Websites can be optimized by editing the HTML code to increase the relevance of search results or their search engine result can be improved by increasing the number of backlinks to that website throughout the internet.

Online marketing agencies can use a number of different formats available on the internet to increase your websites exposure via SEO, these could be: blog posts, forum posts, articles, PowerPoint presentations, online databases, video submissions and promotions, local search submissions (maps), directory submissions, press releases, and copywriting, just to name a few. Alongside the use of SEO to optimize a websites results in a users search, a website can employ paid for methods such as paid placement, contextual advertising or paid inclusion. This is simply advertising on other websites to increase your sites web presence.

One more method that online marketing agencies can employ is email marketing. The idea is simple, relatively effective, and has been around for decades. Basically, an email is sent to all of your previous customers on a regular basis that provides information on recent updates to your website, your product or service range or any other useful information. The email could also contain vouchers or coupon code with which customers can purchase items or services online.

One method which is being increasingly used and frowned upon, to an extent, is search saturation. While SEO or SEM target increasing one page of your websites ranking with the goal of getting it right to the top of the page; search saturation aims at taking over the whole of the first page of results with only links to your website. Although this method is not easy to achieve and can be quite expensive to implement, it is also extremely beneficial.
