Efficient SEO Means More Time For You

By George Haroldson Reaves

Focus. That's the secret. Concentrate your resources on the areas that are the most important and you will see the benefits. That is how you will get the most out of your SEO strategies.

First, you need to ask yourself how your customers find you now. And also, how they don't find you now. Discovering which words your customers plug into Google when they should be directed to your site will help you to speak their language. Understanding the nature of the consumer's search is the first step to focusing on the keywords that will bring your SEO strategies the most benefit.

Write a list of all of the keywords that your customers might use to find you on search engines. Now, choose the top ten words from this list. These are the words that you need to use when you are communicating online.

Now, use those words. Use them in your social networking endeavors. Use them in the content on your site (even if this means rewriting the content that is there). Use them every opportunity you get. Consistently using the same simple messages is the best way to get the point across.

Search engines filter images in a similar way to how they filter text. If you have clear, concise labels and ALT tags that utilize these keywords on all of your photos, you are much more likely to rank higher on a picture search.

Search Engine Optimization also means getting people to refer your web site through backlinks. Backlinks are links to your URL on other people's sites. You can make sure that search engines know that they are links on sites that are relevant by including the keywords in the title of the link.

But beware, don't fall into the trap of degrading the content of your site to repetitive, uninteresting content. Keep it interesting by using different variations of your top ten each time. This will keep the content interesting and provide the variety that search engines like. They will penalize you if your keyword to content ratio is too high.

One way to do this is to write a list of the pages on your website. For each page, write the keywords that are most relevant to that page. Don't be afraid to go back to your original list here and choose from outside the top ten. This help your customers find what they want faster. The secret here is consistency.

Be consistent and concentrate on the few keywords that will bring you the most customers and you will have more time available for content and other areas of your business.
