Useful Tips On How You Can Effectively Choose The Suitable Keywords

By Thom Wakefield

The most fundamental aspects of search engine optimization is the Keyword research which if properly applied can reduce the time and money needed to categorize your chosen keyword by an enormous scope. But if you select the wrong keywords with rising competition and little traffic, you will see very minimal returns for your investment.

Hence, when doing keyword research, it is good to go by certain rules:

It is important to consider the amount of competing pages that chosen keyword has by typing in your keyword within quotes into Google, and viewing the number of search results in the top right hand corner.

Keywords with competing pages can be like 10,000 to 250,000 are the easiest to grade for but if this number is above 1,000,000, you are at an advantage if you choose another keyword. Then again, the number of pages can be out of proportion, which brings us to the next point.

You need to also consider the quality of competition as not only is the quantity of competing pages important, but also the quality too of the competing pages is all the more vital in ranking well for your keyword.

You will find it very tricky to displace the top pages which are perhaps occupied by authority sites with tons of backlinks, like a Wikipedia entry, a Wired.com or NYT news article from the top positions.

On the other hand, if the top outcomes are small time blogs with few backlinks, or shopping results from Amazon or eBay, it will be somewhat easy to grade well for that keyword.

Traffic can be avoided by managing your keyword through the Google AdWords Keyword Tool. Hence, if the keyword gets less than 800 precise searches a month; and the amount of competition is high, so you would be better off choosing a different keyword as it would probably not be worth ranking for at this rate.
