Insider Secrets For Getting Twitter Followers

By Ron Stucky

All online marketers today must make social media part of their marketing strategy. One of the most popular social media portals is Twitter. While Facebook may still be Number One, Twitter is, at worst, a close second. If you're marketing anything on the web, you should have a presence on Twitter. Beyond just being a member, though, what you really need is a significant following on Twitter. There are some steps that can help you build up a Twitter following fairly fast. Here are some tips to building a good, solid and engaged Twitter following.

If your username is short, you'll have better results. One approach is to use some version of your real name for your Twitter username, which will depend on the length of your first, last and/or middle name. The shorter the name, the better for your purposes here. A longer username makes it harder for people to retweet your messages, believe it or not. A short username leaves you more room for the actual message, since Twitter counts the spaces in your name as part of the total you are permitted. You also want to gain some recognition, and the shorter the name, the more likely it will be remembered. You don't have to go to extremes and make it 3 characters, but it should definitely be under a dozen.

It is important that you do not describe the meal that you just had, or a conversation you overheard. Avoid tweeting about what you're wearing today, or how your hair is just a mess and you don't know what to do. Tweeting should always be professional at all times. Your personal account should be where you discuss personal things. You will definitely get the praise of your followers. Replying to other people's tweets can be worthwhile. Replying to tweets with questions or comments is always appreciated. It's no great effort on your part to send off a reply, even if it's only to thank them for the helpful info. In some cases, you may want to ask them to elaborate or clarify a point. Simply expressing gratitude for a useful link or idea is also valid reason to write to them. If you only talk to people who contact you first, you may be waiting a long time. Taking the first step and reaching out to people goes a long way on social media sites. This is one of the ways to get more out Twitter and reaching out to your followers in a notable way.

Don't neglect to write a bio about yourself on your profile. Your bio doesn't have to read like a long resume, but you should have at least a brief one. You can put in any relevant facts about who you are, your experience or what you have to offer. Here you can present anything about yourself that you want people to know. People who click on your profile may be interested to know about your business, so tell them as much as possible. People really do read the bios of the accounts on Twitter and will use them as the basis for whether or not to follow you.

Be aware that anything you tweet is immediately made public - with the exception of direct messages. So people are able to look up your profile and see any tweets you've posted or @ replied to. So work hard to avoid letting your Twitter feed show only lots of sales hype. It's better to have conversations and to share information - even when it won't directly lead to sales - than it is to be overly pushy in your sales pitch. If your feed is all about marketing and sales hype, people won't be tempted to follow you at all, so avoid this.

Making money online can be done in a multitude of ways. Social media increases those options. Twitter is easily one of the more important social media sites around. Twitter is ideal for promoting your business and for interacting with customers as well. But you do have to put in the time and effort to build up your following in order to get those results.Yes, it's takes planning and time to grow your Twitter following to this level, but it's worth it.
