Spyro's Image & Possibility of an Online Marketing Firm

By Rob Sutter

Gamers seem to stay restricted to one - maybe even two - set of a console during each generation and I was no different. As I was firmly on the side of Nintendo, I missed out on some of the other mascots which had potential like Crash Bandicoot and, more importantly, Snake. Spyro the Dragon was another name and I appreciated him much more due to his likability. Due to his faltering popularity, though, maybe an online marketing firm can bring him up to a better level.

I could describe Spyro's personality in many words but I think that fun-loving and heroic definitely fit him. As far as family friendly characters outside of Nintendo are concerned, there are none which seem to be better suited than him. He is able to fly about his environments and he can breathe fire, just like any dragon you would expect. He has a likable nature to him, which only made it more puzzling, to me, why his popularity had fallen when it should have done the opposite.

I can chalk this up mostly due to the idea of new creators coming on and having no idea what to do with this character. Yes, he has had a lot of games released on subsequent consoles but they were shoddy and did not live up to his original ventures. To me, it was apparent that he needed to be taken care of better and he did not seem to receive that until the Skylanders games came about. Even then, though, I have my problems, even though it gave Spyro a new lease on life.

There is a certain price which is acceptable for a game and any online marketing firm can tell you that. The most basic version of Skylander is already quite costly but then you have to consider just how much the additional figures cost as well. The initial kit that players pick up can only grant gamers so many hours, leaving them to shell out money for toys which may not be entirely worth it in the long run. Spyro has a faltering reputation and organizations the likes of fishbat can potentially help it.

Seeing as how Spyro has become nothing more than a vehicle to rake in money, is it any wonder why he needs help? He's a beloved character from many gamers' pasts and he deserves better, in their minds as well as my own. I think that he can stand to be so much more but instead it's like he's a shell utilized to bring in older fans in addition to the potentially new ones. Hopefully he's utilized in a more prominent way and a fashion that actually makes fans happy.
