The Impact Of The Penguin Update On Search Engine Optimisation

By Anne Lopez

Google does it again. After generating a barrage of updates over the past few months, Google does a splendid job piercing the most unscrupulous bunch of online entities on the Internet. The update leaves optimisers and marketers in awe, perturbed and worst, petrified.

Why? Because in a blink of an eye, the search ranking results fluctuated just like that. High ranking web sites dropped several places and lost their reign. Although initially formulated to combat the notorious existence of unscrupulous websites, the Penguin update's broad reach has lashed at legit sites.

Is there a need for a well-formulated SEO strategy? Of course. Through the Penguin update, Google conveys the intended message pretty well: black hat or grey hat SEO is bad for your web site. How can you climb atop Google if you do not adhere to Google's guidelines. The only way to the top is through white hat SEO!

The Penguin update targets the typical dislikes of Google: duplicate content, unnatural linking, paid directory links, cloaking in web designing, spun web content, keyword dilution and all other facets of the dark art of black hat optimisation. If you want to evade the potential threats of a penalized website, then you must find ways to depart from the stronghold of black hat SEO. Clean up your site!

Avoid links from dangerous web sites. These backlinks endanger your rankings too, just so you know! For a safe, try not to use the link to me and I will link to your website attitude. The algo update also looks at the relevancy of the sites you're linking to. If it's not in any way related to your field, then be careful. Google might just drag you down.

Put up fresh content on your site. Content is king with Google, so take advantage of this scheme. Why issue duplicate content when you can craft superior quality articles that make you an authority in your industry? Superior content lures clients to your website!

Work with a white hat SEO company in Singapore to devise your Internet marketing approach.
