By Niamh Arthur

If you are making an attempt to use article marketing for SEO, you almost certainly know the fundamentals of SEO. Except for those completely new to article marketing here is a simplified way to view it.

Article Marketing for SEO starts and ends with back-links!

Google and other search websites will rank the end results that come up in a search based on how tightly related they believe the site is to the search phrase. Tons of back links to your article or site will make the search sites view you as more preferred and an authority on the topic. So those with the most back-links will typically win.

Now there's a lot that goes into SEO, and this is a simplified way of having a look at it, but when article marketing for SEO you really need to concentrate on getting lots of backlinks over the course of time from different places.

Most people use one or two article submission tools to make this easier. You send your article (often changed or "spun" so it isn't just duplicating the same version) to a blog network or article directory submission service. You make sure the article is keyword targeted and you link back to your original article. The anchor text (or blue highlighted text) for your link should be the keyword you are targeting. If this all sounds like Greek to you first read the easy affordable link building strategy article to better comprehend the general methodology.

This is where article marketing for SEO stops for most individuals. But they leave themselves at a Big disadvantage.

Nearly all blog networks and article directory sites allow for 2 links in the resources box of your article. Most folks use this second link to send people to their squeeze page or merely as a general link for their blog. This is a Massive mistake.

You see blog articles won't rank forever! The longer it's been since they generated backlinks the less certain they're to rank on Google! But you can stay on the first page by making one straightforward tweak.

I'm now beating many "gurus" in my field for extremely competitive terms, and I did this using the power of the second backlink. When you use your second backlink in your article submission for either a squeeze page or a general page you are wasting it. Almost all of your submitted articles go to sites that are not very likely to rank on google, so it's a minimal amount of traffic going to those articles. Do not use them to send folk to a random page. Use them to get your other articles ranking.

I ALWAYS use the second back link to retarget a keyword I've already targeted. Hence when I author an article where the readers would also get value out of reading the "How to Blog Tutorial" I put in a link to that article using the keyword as anchor text. The first back link goes to the keyword targeted in the current article, and the second back link goes to a keyword focused in an older article (and links to that original article).

This gives me MORE back-links than the competition (who are sometimes only adding links to each article once). It can also help Google to see my site as the authority as there are backlinks grown over time, not just straight after the article comes out.

Using this straightforward article marketing for SEO system I've seen my results skyrocket.I am ranking more easily and it allows me to target keywords that are extremely competitive, which leads to more traffic!
