Keyword Research Do's And Don'ts From Long Island SEO Companies

By Paula Hess

One of the most important steps involved in any Long Island SEO process is keyword research. After all, if you're going to rank on search engines, you must focus on the best terms that will yield results. This level of research goes a long way, provided it's carried out well. There are both right and wrong ways to go about it. Keep the following do's and don'ts in mind so that you go about keyword research in the best way possible.

DO keep a local focus in mind. First and foremost, SEO strategies should be designed with local focuses in place. One of the reasons for this, according to names like fishbat.com, is that it can help even the smallest of brands rank quicker. For example, a bakery that's located in Miami want to hone in on terms like "bakeries in Florida." While this is just one example, it should give you a general view of what local SEO entails.

DON'T pay attention to terms with little volume. Some keywords gain more searches than others, meaning that your time should be spent wisely. As you conduct research on the matter, you'll find that certain keywords will only a few hundred searches per month. While this might seem worthwhile, the truth is that there are many other terms that dwarf this example. No one in the realm of Long Island SEO will be able to disagree with this.

DO know that there are many seasonal keywords. If you work in ecommerce, there's a good chance that some of your products will sell better during certain months than others. For instance, pool covers are likely to be purchased more during spring and summer months. What this means is that terms related to pool covers won't see as much traction during the cooler months of the year. In simplest terms, there is a seasonal element to SEO.

DON'T shift your efforts so hastily. If your keywords fail to perform in the first few weeks, you should know that this is perfectly normal. One of the cardinal rules regarding SEO is that it takes a few months to generate substantial results. What this means is that you cannot shift your efforts so hastily, using different keywords than the ones you initially settled on. Stick with your current strategy and it will eventually pay off.
